VCE ART FINAL IN PROGRESS!!

my big project of the year!! above is a sketch of the potential final (sorry about dodgy photo quality). I've been exploring the themes of TEENAGE GIRLS and RELEGION/WORSHIP here's a lil excerpt from my exploration proposal

"Despite growing up in an agnostic household, I have been surrounded by religious imagery for as long as I can remember. Due to my mothers penchant for kitsch memorabilia, she has decorated our house with chipped statues of The Virgin Mary, ornate frames of Mother and Child imagery, holographic Jesus posters, as well as glittery and fake jewel encrusted images of Vishnu and Shiva. Alike my mother, I too decorate my walls with worshiped idols; posted of the Spice Girls, Madonna, Gwen Stefani, Elvis... The concept I have come up with is the creation of my own religious cult of teenage girls, exploring common aspects of religion; a holy figure of worship, devoted followers, sacred rituals and symbolism, in combination with themes of teenage girlhood: discovery of identity, loss of innocence, rebellion, materialism and pop culture."

In full I have called the concept "When You Grow Up Your Heart Dies: The Story of Our Lady of Teen-Age Riot, Matriarch of The Church of Girl Luv"

so to explore the creation of a holy figure of worship I have called  Our Lady of Teen-Age Riot (in homage to Sonic Youth - pop culture reference wew!!) I have chosen garment construction!! and here are a couple of progress shots:

^Floral headpiece (not a flower crown!!) with gold pipe cleaner "starbursts"

^first stages of my "shrine skirt". outer skirt is made of holographic tiled fabric and lined with fluro pink spandex, inner skirt is a strip of silver streamer.

I'm gonna try and document all the art/fashion stuff I do over the next few months though! and maybe chuck in some good outfit posts! anyway here is a killer outfit from a few weeks ago that I wore to KO Club (lots of well dressed people there) (also on the right is my fashion soul sister Alex)
